Cookies and Cream Homemade Ice Cream

This icecream is so yummy you might want to come to Oklahoma and hug my neck! I got it from my friend Beverly at work. She assured me "ITS THE BOMB!"

Cookies and Cream Icecream

2 cups milk- scalded (here are instructions for scalding: TIP )

1 tsp salt

1 3/4 cups sugar (does anyone know can you cut down the sugar?)

combine until dissolved then add:

2 cups half and half

4 cups whipping cream

1 T. vanilla

chill for 30 minutes

place in icecream freezer and follow manuf. instructions. when the icecream reaches the consistency of "soft serve" icecream mix in 24 broken up Oreo cookies.

We ate ours right away and it seemed to be better once we let it sit in the freezer. Even then it didn't get super hard, it stayed "soft serve".

All in all a very good and pretty easy recipe. I think if we did it again I think I might cut the sugar a tad because it was very sweet....but very yummy on a hot Fourth of July here in Oklahoma. :o) We sat on the driveway with Nana and Papa (the Original Icecream Lover of our Family) and had a nice cool snack before heading the school for the fireworks show. It was a very good evening to be alive.....icecream, fireworks shared with loved ones and our community on a nice summer night.

  3. I'm so glad I don't have an ice cream maker----I'd be five pounds heavier within a day of reading this. As it is, I content myself with icecream on sale at the supermarket and Ice cream sandwiches....no matter how many you eat, it never feels like you've eaten alot... (I tell myself that anyway)

  4. GM: except homemade chocolate chip oatmeal cookies to go with it! haha

UJ: I only got one spoonful of the left overs. i must learn to hide some for meeeee!

LL: this particular recipe is full of fat and should only be made for large groups or special ocassions. THere is another "ice milk" recipe I want to try next....much lighter

  6. Are you bringing some in your suitcase? You don't really need all those clothes, anyway. They'll just get dirty and you'll have tons more laundry to do.
    Hmmmmm. I'm scheming.

  9. I agree with Jenn: I need one of them there machines. Actually I have one. I haven't used it in about 10 years, but I might just dust it off for your recipe! Thank you for stopping by to visit my blog! Yes - in some cases my beverage choices are influenced by bottle shape and color for my bottle tree.

Musey: Oh yes go get one. They are great! I am ashamed it has sat there for so long unused! I didn't realize how easy it was to make. Let me know how yours turns out if you make the recipe.

  11. Thanks for dropping by my blog. Isn't Lavinia a sweetie pie? Okay, your ice cream sounds divine. I think it's so cool that you have all the Joes. My daughter is Jolie and Lord knows she has wanted to be called Jo since Facts of Life with Jo, the motorcycle girl and then she discovered the Little Women Jo. I have some dear friends in Tulsa and a cousin in Oklahoma City. Come back and visit me anytime. :)

  12. Nana: (that's what my mom is called by her grand-children) Uncle Joe was first and we all followed. Our daughter CarlyJo has a blog too, but she is naughty and hasn't updated in a while. I love the name Jolie! (do you say it JOlee or joLEE?)
