I Can Afford FREE!!

Thursday night since Carly was in Texas (see below) I decided that Cassi and I should have a Mommy Date night.

I got a gift certificate from my brother for my B-day to Chili's so we went there and had fun. Cassi even took her reading book in and finished her reading homework! What a kid!!We left in time to dash over to Sally's Beauty supply for some girl-supplies ie: nail polish! and get to a movie just in time.

We wanted to see Hannah Montana in 3-D but there was only one showing per night at the local theater and it started at 5pm! Yikes! I didn't find that out til 5:05 when I looked up the showing times online. Cassi was a little sad but was quickly convinced to go see something else. I wanted to see Spiderwick Chronicles, but she said it was too scary for her. I wasn't willing to gamble on it and have to leave the movie or have nightmares so we settled on:

I wasn't thrilled to go see a Christmas movie in February, but it turned out to be a really cute show.(Plus I had a gift certificate for movie tickets, so again FREE won me over!) Did you know the Chipmunks are 50 years old??!! I remember watching them when I was little, and who hasn't heard the Christmas album??

We had a great night and I came home with money (60 whole cents) in my pocket and a happy (but tired) little girl.

I heard from Carly several times during the evening and she was on top of the world seeing her three fave young men in the whole wide world:

NICK KEVIN & JOE JONAS

One of the gal pals from her herd of friends invited her to go to Texas to see the J-Bro's in concert! How lucky is she?? They stayed at the Embassy Suites and had a ball! They skipped school two days and got to do a little bit of shopping. I am a tad jealous! haha!! (no scolding us for letting her skip school for this! we picked up homework and believe you me, she will pay for it! she says it is worth it though. we'll see......)

Soooooo, a FREE FUN night for me and Cassi and a bucket-o-fun for Carly! (Uncle Joe just stayed at home and enjoyed the peace and quiet and relished not having to fight for the remote.)

I had an early rise to serve the soldiers breakfast, so I am off to have a snooze before supper. ;o)

Have a great weekend! I hope your Saturday weather is as nice as ours! It is sunny, but windy and beautiful. Maybe I will go have a nap in the swing outside.

Failure Schmailure

Did you know that Babe Ruth, the man who hit the most homeruns in baseball was also the man who had the most strike outs?? People remember his success, not his failure. Where would he be if he didn't strike out all those times?

Kinda makes a strike out seem not so bad doesn't it?

Keep swinging!

Do you ever feel like you have a magnifying glass on you? Like your faults and flaws, real or imagined are huge?

How can you un-magnify these things and put them back in proper perspective?

Strike Two

The pukey/dookie virus strikes again!! Two of the four business office staff called in sick today. We are glad they kept their germified, snottical, vomititrocious selves at home. WE DON'T WANT TO BE SICK TOO!

Ginger

No, I am not talking about the character from Gilligan's Island.

I am talking about the spice.
I am trying a new recipe today for Ginger Chicken. It is from Rachel Ray, or Wachel Way, as Cassi used to say. I had to modify it just a bit since I couldn't find sesame oil at the local grocery store. I can't imagine why our little town wouldn't have more use for sesame oil!

I don't know how this will turn out. I am sure that UJ will be able to doctor it up if need be. I'll let you know how it turns out. :o)
Update: the dish was not very good. edible but not something I would do again, or if i did i would use exactly what is called for in the recipe. i had to use ginger juice instead of minced ginger and it made it too watery and the flavors drained off. that and UJ wouldn't even eat it. i ate it alone......

**********************************

In other news, Carly will be leaving for the Jonas Brothers concert on Thursday. I know she is looking forward to seeing them. I hope they have binoculars so she can see them up close.
***********************************
My pastor Danny, his wife,Teresa and several congregation members are in Israel right now. I would love to see that area of the world someday, but I doubt it will ever happen. I will have to see it via Google Earth. haha. I am sure they will all be fired up when they get back. I am looking forward to pictures and stories. There is never a dull moment when Teresa is around anyway so for her to be coming back from such an awesome trip is very exciting.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled and less boring blogging. ;o)

Stay Calm....On Second Thought...PANIC!!

Today when I arrived at work to man the check out desk at the clinic, the phone was ringing off the wall. All lines lit up and Beverly and I were frantically answering calls, scheduling appointments and placing sick callers on hold while Karen checked people in.

Then........three of the five nurses on staff came to the front desk and interrupted me on the phone to tell me they have they flu. They were promptly sent home and we were left to deal with the day.

I am proud to report that we made it through the day, thanks to creative management, good attitudes, one x-ray tech/lab tech/fill-in nurse and a firm answer of "NO" to the hundreds, ney thousands of phone-calls we received.

It seems our area has been hit with a killer respiratory virus AND a horrendous pukey/dookie virus that has been terribly hard for our patients to shake. Our office is full of feverish, snotting, coughing, pooping and puking people all day every day. I have bought stock in Lysol, and expect to be a millionaire or at least a hundredaire by the end of the week.

This is a real live picture of the pukey/dookie virus that is plaguing our peeps. Pretty u-g-l-y huh??

The Smell of Music

Two days ago as we were driving home from Nana's, Cassidy in usual form was singing. Carly and I noticed at the same time that she was singing: "I can smell the music........."

Maybe she can.

Barefoot Contessa

I love to watch Ina Garten on Barefoot Contessa on Food Network. I love to hear her soothing voice and watch her cook simple yet elegant recipes for her husband, her florist, her gardner, her friends daughter, her best friend, practically everyone she knows.
I love it that she loves to cook for those she loves. She is very thoughtful in her food choices and always makes something wonderful.
I want her to be my friend and cook for me someday.
P.S. I love chocolate.

Happy VD

Today is Valentines day. I don't have the money to buy Uncle Joe this cool guitar, so I will just give him the picture to look at. A picture is worth a thousand words right?? I wish it was worth a thousand dollars then I could get it for him. He needs another guitar. Pretty soon our garage will be a studio and he can hang them on the walls like Ted. :o)

I am sick with fever and all the respiratory stuff everyone else has had. I managed to go this far without getting sick, and one day at the front desk at work put me right in the line of fire....er actually it was coughing and snotting and breathing down on me with germy breath. Carly is feeling much better I am happy to report. She missed three days of school this week.

I am very sad I can't get any Valentine kisses from UJ. I don't want him to get sick with this so I will stay away from him. (*too bad for him! ;o) heehee

Anyway I am feeling glassy eyed now so I will go dose up with Tylenol and go lie down some more.

Stop the madness!

I have to put my two cents worth in on this subject: Britney Spears.

I haven't really kept up with her since the office's subscription to People Magazine expired some time back. I hear little bits and pieces on what little news I watch and see her face on the tabloids while waiting in line at Walmart or the grocery store, so all this may be off the mark, but it is after all MY opinion. :o)

I really feel sorry for this young woman. Her life is splattered all over every entertainment magazine for the whole world to inspect and critique.

Yes she has made some terrible judgements and has outlandish behaviour, but WHY ARE WE PAYING MONEY TO SEE IT? That is what I don't understand. Let the girl to to Starbux for pete's sake! What is the big deal about following her around 24/7?

When will we stop buying these magazines that exploit her silly antics?

When we stop making pictures of her worth thousands of dollars, maybe she can settle down and get the help she desperately needs!

She is on a dangerous road here and I really do fear for her life. She may bring some of this on herself for all I know, but the photographers that are swarming her car and following her all over creation are creating a dangerous situation. Soon I fear that her name will be said in the same sentence as Princess Di's for the same reason. We hounded her to death. Why?Because we are revelling in someone else's pain and misery. It is just shameful.

Shame on us.

Isn't It Great?

I was in Walmart today to buy a birthday gift for a little girl down the street. We have gotten into the habit of entering through the garden area of the store. It seems we can find a better parking spot, the line to enter the store is usually not very congested and we can usually get out fairly quickly.

Today was not a getting out quickly kind of day. It seems everyone had the same idea I had and there were several people in line ahead of us and apparently there we were there during lunch because there was only one checker for a while.

So as I waited in line I was looking around at all the couples. I was amazed that there is someone for everyone. The older lady that I observed coming in was a little vertically challenged and seemed to have some deficiencies in the make-up skills department. (either that or she was a former circus clown.) She had her husband following her close behind. He apparently liked the way she looked. The red-neck gals I see coming to Walmart in their pajamas and slippers....they have someone whose boat they float. The tomboyish girls who love to play sports...they have someone who appreciates that. The brainy girls catch the brainy guys. You get my drift.....

Somewhere out there is your mate. Someone whose boat you will float, whose fancy you will tickle. Someone who will love you for just who you are. Someone who will think of you first thing in the morning and the last thing before they go to sleep. If you have that mate already go give them a squeeze and a take-my-breath-away-kiss and just walk away, leaving them wondering what has gotten into you. If you are still waiting for that mate, then get to Walmart! You never know who you are going to run into there, literally and figuratively!

Ain't love grand??

The Hands I Miss

This photo came in an email from a friend and reminds me of when my Nan passed away in Oct 2005. I was on my way home from the hospital when I got the call that she was fading fast and I had better hurry back. I rushed home to get my family and let Uncle Joe drive me back to say good-bye.

I remember listening to Casting Crowns, Praise you in this Storm and Lifesong up there. I cannot hear those songs today and not think of Nan.

We arrived and when the elevator door opened my dad was there to receive me and give me the news. We were too late. I of couse wanted to see her....and very specifically her hands.

I loved her hands.

They were very gentle and soft. I saw those hands many times play praises at church, make my favorite cookies, try to teach me crochet, and dig in the soil to make a fabulous flower and vegetable garden. (those efforts are still evident in the yard now!)

Those sweet hands made thousands of the most delicious meals for our family and taught me to make chicken and dumplins, our family favorite. (I don't make them as tasty as her, but at least I tried!)

I know thost hands spend thousands of hours folded in prayer interceding for me and my family. I think that is what I remember most. She took us to Sunday School , just around the corner from her house when we were little children. We sat on the "Amen Row" until it was time to go to class. Used to peek at her during prayer and see hands folded at her mouth praying earnestly. She was never distracted and I know that she reached Heaven.

Another thing that is very prominent in my mind is the sweet wedding band that she wore. It was a thin gold band with apple blossoms on it. She had worn it so long that most of the blossoms were worn away. That meant something to me.

I have two precious pictures of my babies grasping her fingers. Fingers that would play with them in the floor just like another little child. She adored all her great grand children. I am so glad they got to know her and will have memories of her.

The hands of a woman are special. I look at my hands and wonder what is in store for them? Hopefully a long full life of them giving loving touches, exacting correction when necessary, making the best oaties ever, tickle scratches, foot rubs, work and lots of hours folded in prayer....and....maybe someday I will look down and see old wrinkled hands and smile.

Kelloggs Snow

Today after a nice lunch at a tea room with my boss, we went outside and it was snowing white cornflakes! The snow was beautiful.....ginormous flakes. There was a nice accumulation by the time I got off work, but they will be gone tomorrow. The temp is supposed to be in the 40's. The kids are sad about that.

Why does it get so quiet when it snows? Have you noticed that?

Happy Birthday DOOOOOOOZIE!!!!

Hold on to your socks!

My daughter, my luckiest-daughter-in-the-room, gets to go see these guys at the end of Feb with a friend from school. Don't be jealous.

She is counting the hours, planning what to wear, what to say when she meets them. (Yes she fully intends and expects to meet them) She knows all the words to their songs, and knows every freckle on Kevin's face, every dimple on Joe's face and every curl in Nick's hair. Her walls are plastered with their faces. This should put a smile on her face for a loooooong time.
On a good note, these young men seem to be a good thing. You don't hear their names in the news for "bad behaviour". They have several videos on YouTube that are just hilarious to my teen. All in all, a good group for her to listen to and dream of meeting.
"Anything is possible with God Mom. They might be having a meet-and-greet and maybe we can meet them."
I imagine she would be speechless if she actually met them. Could she think of something funny to say?? Would she go weak in the knees? Would her tongue swell up? Would the room suddenly get very hot and stuffy?
We can only hope.

Mother of the Year Award & Not So Snow Day

Mother of the Year Award goes to Aunt Josefina of Oklahoma!!

Tuesday morning I knew it was going to be cold here in Oklahoma and possibly a sprinkling of snow overnight. I peeked outside first thing to assess the situation. I saw ice droplets on my windshield but no snow on the ground. "OK I thought, nothing to worry about. I'll just warm the car up longer, bundle Carly up and maybe drop her off at the front door. " Off we went, having no problems other than on the front porch which always has a small patch of ice in winter because it gets no direct sunlight. No biggie. On our journey to educationland we pass the two boys I have lovingly named Pocket Boy and Tall Guy. (Pocket Boy never wears a jacket or coat and walks with his hands stuffed in his jeans pockets...and Tall Guy, well that is self explanatory) PB and TG were walking toward home not school. "Hmmm I wonder what those boys are doing, did they forget something?....Haha or their is no school and we don't know....surely not. Wait...there is very little traffic today come to think of it.....OMG there is no one at the school! THERE IS NO SCHOOL TODAY! I am the worst mother! Why isn't there school today? There is no snow and only a little smidgen of ice! What weinies! Great now I am going to be late for work. What are the girls going to do all day? I wonder how loud Uncle Joe will cry when he realizes he has to stay home with the girls another day? I have gotta get a tv in my room to keep up with these things."

So I turned around and took Carly home to her Daddy and sister who were up enjoying a spot of breakfast. They had no clue either. Thank goodness they went to Nana and Papa's later to break up the monotony of being home all day on a Not So Snow Day.
The next day Cassidy called me as I was driving to work. She was upset because there was actually going to be school on Wednesday. She said, "But we PRAYED Mom! We prayed for no school and last year it worked!"

Oh, the joys of parenthood and winter weather in Oklahoma.

I'm just sayin'

Today I went to the bank drive thru and because of the freezing wind chill, my window was frozen shut so I had to pull up a bit and open my door to use the ....the sucky thing that takes your bag. (what the heck is that thing called anyway? vacuum tube receptacle holder Uncle Joe tells me.) Any way I had a full view of the tellers processing my transaction.

I was watching in horror as the teller that counted my deposit kept moistening her fingers on her bottom lip. She didn't lick her finger/thumb like most people, but kept flipping her bottom lip to touch the inside of her lip. I was mesmerized and grossed out at the same time. It looked silly!

Doesn't she know that money is filthy!? Doesn't she know there are horrible germs and dirt on money? Doesn't she know that I don't want her spittle on MY money?? Doesn't she know they make "SortKwik"?

I am sure there had to be some there so why didn't she partake of the SortKwik? Was there some shortage? A SortKwik coup?

How can I annonymously give her some? I would be on tape if I drive through. Maybe I could mail her some.
I think this is one of my pet peeves don't you?? Maybe I am just spit sensitive after working the front desk of a medical facility. I have to touch drivers licenses and insurance cards that people have licked their fingers to get out of their wallet. I grab them on the sides. (and keep the hand sanitizer close by) I have ingested more germs hurled at me via an unprotected cough or sigh than I even want to think about.

I think I need a long hot... very hot shower now, and some Listerine.

Late Night Laughs

Last night, Charlie White Sox Pesednick Joe, our cat got left inside most of the night. I say most of the night because at 3:50am he came to our bedroom meowing.

"Meooow" translated: I need out.
"Meooow" translated: NOW.
"Meow" translated:Grown up lady who lives here, LET ME OUT!

I awoke as did Joe, but since Charlie was on my side of the bed, I picked him up to take him to the door. On my way down the hall, I sleepily looked down and saw a pile of brown. I thought: Great. The cat took a dump on the carpet right outside our bedroom door. Oh well I can't be mad at him because we left him in.... I'll grab a papertowel on my way back and clean that up.

I got said papertowel and was contemplating which cleaner to use and I bent down and picked up a pile of ....tan knee-high panty hose.

I had a good laugh at 3:51am this morning.:o)

Scrub a Dub Dub

I went to the mall at Christmas-time and used a great hand scrub that made my hands soft for 2 days! I wasn't about to pay $40 for a tub of it, so I started googling and found a homemade recipe that I modified to suit my olfactory likes and would like to share it with you.

~SuSu's Salty Scrub~

3 cups Sea Salt (I used Hain, pictured below)

1 cup of oil (I used a combination of the following oils)

~Play with the combination and use your favorites~
2 ounces sweet almond oil
2 ounces vitamin E oil
2 ounces olive oil
2 ounces avacado oil

tea tree oil (just a drop or two)
oil scent of your liking (I used honey almond YUM!)

Stir together and store in an airtight container.

Note: I also tried a blend of epsom salt and sea salt. It was not as abrasive as sea salt alone. I think I like Sea Salt alone, but if you have sensitive skin, epsom salt may be for you.

Use about 1 1/2 teaspoon full and rub all over your dry hands. Rinse with warm water and pat your hands dry. Do not wash. Allow the oil to soak in your hands. This can be used all over your body except your face.

Fabuloso Food and Pharmacy Miracles

This is what I had for dinner. Uncle Joe and I went out for a nice adults only dinner with ourselves. I think that is called a "date". We don't get to do it too much these days, so the idea was kind of foggy.

We went to a local Italian ristorante called Johnny V's. Their food is very good, very affordable and very plentiful. When your meal comes your eyes grow to the size of saucers...."You expect me to eat all that??!!" Immediately you are envisioning your lunch and supper tomorrow.

I had spaghetti carbonara and it was very tasty. The only carbonara I had eaten to this point was Lean Cuisine, so this was a huge treat. Literally. I ate about 1/4 of the plateful of food. We have enough for all of us to eat again for one meal.

We had wanted to go to a movie too, but our wait at the ristorante was quite long and we would have had to go to the late show. Carlyjo was our babysitter and we didn't want to overdo it our first run with her and CassiJo home alone. :o)

I did however squeeze in a short Walmart run. Our family needs several medications on a monthly basis. Let me just say that Walmart is saving me a boatload of money with their $4 perscription plan. If you take a lot of medications it is worth it to check it out. It is great for me because I can pick the rx's up at my convenience and not have to work around the employee pharmacy at the hospital where our rx's are usually filled. Some of our meds had to be changed because our insurance had made them "nonpreferred" or worse "noncovered". GREAT. Our copay's went up too, so the $4 rx fills are cheaper than my copay. That is just wrong. I try really hard not to complain because our premiums are cheaper than other plans and it has been good for us up to this point. (OK I'll shut up)

Have a great weekendn y'all and in the immortal words of Larry the Cable Guy and GroovyMom: GIT-R-DONE!!

Electric Light Orchestra

Wow we sure paid for the great weather we had this weekend. See Uncle Joes post about it: here

He had gone to Peggs OK, to watch an OU football game with a friend and unbeknownst to them drove straight into a tornadic thunder storm. The storm was so bad they didn't get to watch the game because the weather men were on television the whole time. (they did however have some good snacks!)

Meanwhile back at home, we were watching an electric show. I saw so much lightening here it looked like strobe lights. It was constant for hours. I had never seen it like that. Thankfully there were no damaging thunderstorms here. Poor Cassidy was terrified to go to sleep. She hates thunderstorms. Thankfully she slept through the rest of the light show.

Of course I (and Carly) couldn't sleep knowing our Sweetie Daddy was out in that storm so we were awake until he got home 'bout midnight. I am very tired this morning and don't really feel like being up, but I gotta go bring home some bacon and fry it up in a pan. ........'cause I'm a WOMAN......ENJOLI!!

*Yawn*

Beware This a LOOOONG (and likely boring) Post

I wasn't really tagged by anyone but Leslee invited anyone who wanted to play to join in, so I did. I don't want to be left out. Apparently the month in which I was born says a lot about me. I agree with Emma that the month I was conceived in says more. I was born exactly 8 months and 2 weeks to the day from when my father walked in the door from basic training in the Army. He jokes and says "The second thing I did was put down my bags."

Any way here goes:

FEBRUARY:
Abstract thoughts. Nope not really
Loves reality and abstract. I know this: I hate reality shows.
Intelligent and clever. I am a little of both despite what people say about me. I may be intelligent, but it is cancelled out by ditzy.
Changing personality. Oh yea. I feel like a chaotic person inside sometimes. I wear lots of different hats for what ever the occasion requires. I like to fit in so I can change to mingle a bit easier
Attractive. Well there must have been something attractive about me at some time in my life because I married the sweetest man I had ever met.
Sexy. I like to call myself "A Closet Naughty" (but I cannot talk dirty....it makes me laugh)
Temperamental. Who Me?? I feel tempermental, but try to keep it in.
Quiet, shy and humble. If I say I am humble doesn't that mean I am not??
Honest and loyal. I try very hard to be honest. I am a terrible liar so that makes it pretty easy.
Determined to reach goals. I wish I was more determined. I have good intentions but have a hard time seeing things through to the very end.
Loves freedom. At my job I love the freedom I have to do what I think needs to be done, but I also like having guidelines and deadlines.....structure to keep me on task working towards the finish.
Rebellious when restricted. Well come to think of it. Once when Uncle Joe and I first got married we were 'rasslin and he got on top of me and held my wrists down so I couldn't move. I think I turned into a tazmanian devil when I couldn't move. We laugh about it now......
Loves aggressiveness. Exept for when I can't move (see above)
Too sensitive and easilyhurt. Oh yes! It isn't as bad now, but I do get hurt very easily especially by the ones I love. Most times it is perceived.
Gets angry really easily but does not show it. I will refer to the Corn Muffin Incident of 2006. Joe and I had had a "discussion" and I thought we were done. Well I got alone with nothing but my thoughts and they overtook me. When I came back into the room where he was I was mad again and couldn't really say anything.....so I threw a corn muffin at him. I felt much better after that.
Dislikes unnecessarythings. After having 2 children who love little bitty toys of all sorts I have become a disliker-of-unnecesary things like the 800th pair of Barbie shoes or the 78th Happy Meal toy...you get the idea.
Loves making friends but rarely shows it. I love friends and I love making friends. (my old friends are like my favorite quilt) I don't get nearly as many opportunities that I would like to though.
Daring and stubborn. I am my father's daughter......and he is as stubborn as the day is long. I am not daring though. I am very cautious and make calculated moves.
Ambitious. Not enough. I could stand more in my opinion.....but I am a hard worker.
Realizes dreams and hopes. Not really.....but it is fun to have them any way.
Sharp. I am very curvy and soft.
Loves entertainment and leisure. You have got to be kidding. Of course!! My GNO with Carol two weeks ago was SO great. We leezed and entertained for 26 glorious hours! (next time there will be mani/pedicures and a long soak in a hot tub at her house!)
Romantic on the inside not outside. I have all these grand romantical ideas but feel silly about them now. I am too old to be acting that way! When I was woo'ing Uncle Joe we made each other all kinds of sweet romantic things....letters pictures, activities and services. *sigh* Remember Joe??
Superstitious and ludicrous. Aren't they some rap singers? I can't rap.
Spendthrift. Ask Doozie, Clarence is my best friend. I know where he hides in all my favorite stores. He always has good deals for me.
Tries to learn to show emotions. Well I actually need to learn to show my emotion more constructively and without fear of rejection. They are my feelings and I am entitled to feel them right?

Let me see what the month of Joe's birth says about him in my opinion.

My Thai

I found this great recipe of all places in Woman's Day magazine. I tried it recently and loved it. (we did have to add a little bit of Thai spice after cooking it, but otherwise it was great!)

Thai Chicken Curry

1 medium onion thinly sliced

1 medium red bell pepper thinly sliced

1 can (14oz) unsweetened coconut milk

1/2 cup frozen petite peas

2 tsp red curry past or 2 tsp curry powder

1/8 tsp ground red pepper (cayenne)

1/2 tsp salt

2 cups sliced cooked chicken

1 cup torn basil leaves

Coat a large nonstick skillet wiht nonstick spray. Saute' onion over med-high heat 3 minutes or until golden.

Add bell pepper, cover and cook 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onion and pepper are almost tender

Stir in coconut milk, peas, curry and salt; bring to a boil. Add chicken; simmer uncovered 1 minute or until sauce is slightly thickened and vegetables are tender. Remove from heat; stir in basil.

Serve over sticky rice.

Double yum

UPDATE: I had Carly read this to me when I cooked it this week. I had so many typos it was funny....i had written: "remove from head" Ummmmmok

Fourth, a Friday

Wow I am glad it is Friday. For a short week this was a stressful one. We had month-end things to and not a lot of time to do it in. Blah blah blah....we're done.

I bought the new Mercy Me cd last weekend and love it. I have been listening to it in my car on the way to/from work. I need to put it on the ipod so I can really concentrate on the lyrics and sing real loud to annoy and embarrass my family.

The administrators of the clinic I work for got the staff a cappaccino/hot chocolate machine for a belated Christmas gift. Each of them has agreed to buy two cases of mix per quarter so we can have have cappaccino/hot choc all year. Pretty cool huh? We will all be fat and caffinated!

In other news, Shelby The Dog Who Chews Up Everything On Earth ate off the arm and foot of CassiJo's brand new singing Island Princess Barbie. Barbie, now that she is a paraplegic is in physical therapy. We are hoping for a recovery tomorrow when she will be reintegrated into the Barbie population of CassiJo's room.

News from the other side of the house: CarlyJo has decided to take up the saxophone and retire her flute. Over Christmas break she was practicing in her room and Cassi opened the door and said, "Sissy you REALLY need to turn that thing down!" ~ Carly has already learned to play a scale on it, and hopefully it will come easy to her since it is more of what she wanted rather than what I wanted her to do. :o)

Here is something sweet: My friend, Beverly, who got a divorce for Christmas last year has reconciled with her exhusband and expects to remarry some time this year. It makes me misty when she tells me about it. Beverly had a hard childhood and when she had a medical crisis 2 years ago, her personality changed. It is a long story, but after being apart from her husband and dating a string of jerks realized that her ex really did love her and she loved him. All the while she was dating these other men, when they would hurt her she would always go back to Scott for advice. He must have been taking notes on "what NOT to do" because he is a changed man. He has made lots of changes in his attitude, his actions toward her and it has paid off. Maybe it is true that absence makes the heart grow fonder. Maybe they needed to be friends before they could be lovers again. They needed to see each other in a new light and through different eyes. In any case Beverly gives God the glory for this restoration. She said He spoke to her about it, and I am so glad she heeded His words. Her marriage is recovering, her children will not grow up in a broken home and THIS time SHE gets to propose to Scott. :o) We will have fun planning a small intimate wedding soon. I can't wait.

Have you heard any good news lately? I heard, through the bloggie vine that Someone has a bun in the oven. (A very sweet bun too!) Hmmm, now how are we going to have a Blogger Baby Shower?? We must brainstorm about that.
Is anyone else watching Journeyman on NBC? We are addicted to it here at the House of Joe. Thank goodness for DVR on DirecTV! UJ has it set to automaticaly record all the episodes so we don't even have to think about it.

Well it sounds as if WWIII is about to break out in my living room. I better go try to restore peace to the world.

Pandora Radio

My friend, Slick turned me onto this website called Pandora. It is a "radio" station that only plays the type of music you love. Enter an artists name and the program will select only music that is similar. Listening is free, but there are upgrades. You are at the mercy of the program for song selection and you can forward to the next song, but cannot repeat a song. I love it for work days when I get tired of the real radio.

You can find it here: http://www.pandora.com/

Go check it out and start making a play list of your favorite musicians.

Here are some of mine/ours: Michael Buble', Carrie Underwood, Suzanne Ciani, Enya, Phil Keaggy, Kutless, and Third Day. What ever mood I am in I can find something I like. As the albums display I learn of new artists I would like to know more about. I think I listen to Michael Buble' Channel the most. I really like some of the older music believe it or not. :o)

Pandora. It makes me happy.

The Greatest Cookies in the World

I made some yummy cookies the past two weeks and I would love to share the recipes with you.

The maiden cookie voyage for the Batman Mixer was Snickerdoodles. I found a great recipe and oh.my.goodness. These cookies were so good they made you want to do a cookie dance.

Prior to making these cookies make sure you have a nice cup of coffee to dip them in. :o)

Aunt Jo's Snickerdoodles (yes I can name them after me!)

2 cups sugar, divided
1 cup Butter Flavored Crisco
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons cram of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Heat oven to 400 degrees F

In the bowl of an electric mixer, combine 1 1/2 c. sugar, Crisco, eggs, milk and vanilla. Beat at medium speed until well blended.

In a medium bowl combine flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Add gradually to shortening mixture at low speed. Mix just until blended.

In a small bowl combine remaining 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. (I used a MEDIUM cookie scoop) Roll in sugar-cinnamon mixture. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.

Bake 7-8 minutes. (since I used bigger balls I had to cook mine longer)
Cool 2 minutes on baking sheets. Place on cooling racsk to cool completely.

In the words of Rachel Ray: YUMMO!!

Aunt Jo's Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

1 1/2 c sifted all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 c butter flavored Crisco
3/4 c firmly packed brown sugar
3/4 c sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon hot water
1 cup chopped pecans
1-12 ounce package semi sweet morsels
2 cups uncooked oatmeal (not instant)
1 teaspoon vinlla extract

heat oven to 375 degrees F

Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt and set aside.

Cream together the shortnening and the sugars. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, together with the hot water. When mixed well, add the pecans, choc chips, oaties and vanilla

Drop by teaspoonful onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes. (Again I used a medium cookie scoop so I had to bake mine a lot longer.)

Both were a hit and I plan on making them again......

It's Just Not Fair

You know, it's just not fair when friends drive all the way from FORT WORTH TEXAS to go eat at Sam & Ella's and when you get there they have run out of dough!! NOOOooo!! We had all starved ourselved all day in anticipation of the best -pizza- ever -made: Rock Island Red. Our friends, Terry and Sharon even wore their S&E shirts and still nothing....even though there were pizzas sitting on the counter waiting to be served and delivered. We thought about a pizza heist but decided against it if we ever wanted to go there again.

We settled on some other not-so-great food. The fun company made up for the food fiasco, thank goodness. Terry keeps us entertained and Sharon tries, unsucessfully to keep him in line.

We may have to have a Sam & Ella pizza run later in the week- just for us. :o)

**************************************

Cassidy is feeling under the weather because her tonsils are 'itis-d. She has a raging case of tonsillitis. Her tonsils are huge and covered in blisters. You can hear it in the difference in her voice. Good thing Sweet Dr. E. was still at work when I called. We closed early and he was there finishing up his charts. When I arrived at g-mom's to pick Cassidy up she was napping. This kid never naps unless she is sick, so I called and he was kind enough to wait for us to come back for a short exam. He is so good to us. We have antibiotic, Chloroseptic and Tylenol to keep her comfy today and hopefully tomorrow she will feel like going to school. (I don't think it will take much to keep her home do you?)

Carly went to a Youth Group New Year's Party last night. I was so tired when she got home I didn't even hear how it went.

I laid down with Cassidy and fell alseep while Terry, Sharon and UJ were visiting. When I woke up it was 12:15 and UJ had to go fetch Carly from church. I tried desperately to stay awake on the couch, but my eyes must have been made of lead because they would not stay open. I was a terrible hostess for our company! (I am sure they understand though)

Now I am getting ready to fire up the Kitchen Aid mixer again for some killer cookies to take to Nana and Papa's Mexican Feast today.

Happy New Year!

This is a post about Carly

Carly is my eldest daughter.

She wants me to make a post about her.

She is 13 years old and has the most beautiful porcelian skin and curly dark hair.

She is very funny, a comic genius says Tedly, and makes silly noises when she is happy.

She wiggles when she eats something she likes. Always has....even as a baby!

She turned her feet in circles when she was a baby sitting in her swing. She still does that when she is thinking or tired.

She has a teddy bear named AprilBear. She was a gift from my ex-sister in law and remains her favorite bear.

She loves Dr. Pepper. She got a Dr. Pepper shirt, a six pack of Dr. Pepper and Dr. Pepper lip gloss from her silly mother for Christmas.

She is currently boy crazy. She gets that from her mother.

She has beautiful eyes. When she was born she had the longest eye lashes. The nurses told me that was a sign of a truly beautiful baby. I totally believed them.

She prayed for a baby sister once. Now she wonders why she did it. (haha!)

When we shop together she has to be touching me at all times as we stroll. We appear to be conjoined twins, attached at the elbow. Sometimes it annoys me, but most of the time I just laugh when I notice it.

All her friends are nutso like her so they are a herd of silly sweet goofy girls.

She also has bedroom floor issues. Apparently it causes her stress to actually SEE the floor.....so it is always covered with clothes. I just keep the door shut as that annoys me.

She is a joy in my life and I am glad God have her to us to be our daughter.

She Has It All Figured Out

A co-worker, Cathey, has a niece named Alli. Alli is Cathey's MiniMe. Cathey is kind of matter-of-fact in all she does. She doesn't get all silly goofy about things like I do. She is the voice of reason, the devil's advocate and always the one to put you in your place and tell you just how it is. Her niece is the same way. Alli is 4 yrs old.

Cathey went to visit Alli this weekend and was asking what she was going to get for Christmas. Their conversation went like this:

"Alli, what is Santa going to bring you for Christmas?"

"Blue Dora (the Explorer) ear-rings and necklace"

"Oh.....that sounds nice" At this point Cathey realizes these items have never been mentioned before and her mother is clueless that she wants these.

"Well you know sometimes Santa doesn't bring us every single thing we want, and that's OK isn't it?"

Alli replies, "He is bringing me Dora ear rings and necklace Aunt Cappy"

Cathey knows there is no chance Alli will get the jewelry so Cathey and Alli's dad decide to try to persuade her against wanting the earrings. They get a pair of earrings and tell her, "Alli do you know how ear rings get in your ears? They take the ear rings and put a little tiny hole in your ear."

"Does it hurt?" asks Alli

"Yes but just for a minute" Cathey tells her.

Alli ponders this thought for a while and when her dad is visiting with her later about Christmas the ear rings come up again.

"Remember Alli, you'll have to get little holes in your ears to wear the ear rings. You don't want them to do that to your ears remember?"

Alli has it ALL figured out and says, "Oh Santa is going to bring me new ears."

Uninterrupted time

Today I am out of town on a GirlsNightOut or GNO as CarlyJo has christened it....my friend, Carol, and I are in Tulsa for a night of fun.

We left town as soon as I picked up my paycheck yesterday and headed out of town. I was glad that my niece, Salani came over to keep the girls company while I am away. You know how Drama Queens can be! As soon as she arrived I was old news.....thankfully!

I fetched Carol from her parent's home in Fort Gibson and we were on our way. I felt like I was going to take a big breath and not stop talking for 30 hours! We have a lot of fun together, but we can also be quiet together and be totally content.

Our hotel is directly across the street from the huge local mall, so I imagine we will be there first thing. It will be a great thing to be there with no one else to have to worry about, take to the bathroom, corral or separate from their sibling.

We had dinner at Carrabas, an Italian restaurant, and it was SO good. Our waiter was fabulous and really made our maiden trip very nice. I had Lobster ravioli. (Good, but I don't think I would get it again) Carol had plain ravioli and we shared a great unprouncable dessert. It was butter cake with vanilla pudding, fruit and whipped cream topping. Very yummy and seemed simple enough to duplicate at home later.

We went to see P.S. I Love You and it was very good. It made us cry throughout the whole movie but we laughed a lot too. I would recommend it for a good chick-flick. Two thumbs up here!

Barnes and Noble was the only store open after the movie so of course we went to sniff some books. I found something for CarlyJo and Uncle Joe but decided to wait to find something for myself. I have limited funds you know! I will hunt for a goodie for CassiJo tomorrow too :o)

I must have been major tired because I fell alseep as soon as my head hit the pillow and Carol said I slept through our noisy neighbors banging/clanging/hollering at 1230am.

Now we are channel surfing and blogging, throwing the idea of breakfast around......life is good.

Our time may be limited, so we will maximize it by having major fun!

Our girls (she has 2 girls and 1 boy) kept asking what we were going to be doing. We both told them, "Whatever we want......uninterrupted!" It is just nice not to have a plan and do whatever we want.

Right now there is a cup of coffee calling me to come downstairs......

Hi Kai!

Our nephew Kai has learned a new skill.......can you guess what it is??

Christmas is coming!!

It is hard to think of things I want for Christmas....here are the intangibles:

You can never have enough grace......or smiles. Good thing about smiles, they are contagious, so pass some out!

Hugs and kisses are wonderful.....especially when they come when you least expect it or really really need them after a bad day.

Now the tangibles......

I am trying really hard to grow my nails out long and pretty. I have been told I have nice long nail beds so they look long even when they aren't. I would love to have a nice manicure from Shannon at Salon Secrets on York Street. :o)

I have always wanted one of these necklaces....costume jewelry of course.

I missed seeing this at the movies last year so now it is out on DVD. :o)

Here is my fave B&B scent and I am out of bath/shower gel.....

Dark chocolate is best....and good for you too! (if that is a lie, don't tell me.)

Our kitchen chairs don't have pads in them. Maybe if they did we could use the dining table more. ;o) (that and clean it off!)

Walmart has some black checked ones we liked, right Carly??

I need some new toons!!

I love flannel pj's! These are so sweet!

I must must must have a new calendar people! It is my lame attempt to try and stay organized.

This is my new favorite perfume. It smells SO yummy. (A little like Obesssion)

I wonder if it will drive Uncle Joe mad? I must invite him into my bubble to test the theory: Just a dab will do....just enough that you have to be "in my bubble" to smell it. Mmmmmmm

I have everything bought and wrapped. I went on a marathon shopping trip to Tulsa last Friday all by my self. I was so proud of myself! I didn't have any trouble in traffic, and only had to ram one person who pulled out in front of me in front of Krispy Kreme. I had ideas galore and cash to spend. I got the girls gifts here and there and everywhere (Carly did you really think I was going to tell you where I shopped? haha)

Uncle Joe got us a "together gift"
a Batman Black mixer. I am firing it up today and making some cookies. I think I might try Chocolate Chip Oatmeal and Snickerdoodles. We also got a pasta maker with it. I hope to try that out soon too.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and a blessed Christmas, that you are surrounded by your loved ones sharing your love and laughter.

Thank you Jesus for leaving Heaven to come to earth, to share our air and walk our sod. Thank you for teaching us how to love one another as you loved us. Thank you for loving us when we fail and for encouraging us to keep on keeping on, and thanks for hanging around and NEVER leaving us, even when we feel alone. ~

Happy Boobah Cassidy

Happy Boobah to my baby!

'bout this time 8 yrs ago I was snuggling with my newborn baby daughter in a warm hospital bed singing Christmas carols softly in her ear. She slept right through my songs.

Since that night we have been laughing with this kid and the silly stuff she says. (Like last week: "Mom do boys have something called a nut?" My reply: Yes it is on top of their shoulders and it is called THEIR HEAD" Carly was in the back seat saying, "I can't WAIT to hear your answer Mom." I handled that well don't you think? )

Friday, December 07, 2007

All I have to do today is...

go to work
get as much done in 6 hours as I do in 8
come home
pick up Cassidy early from school
(My friend Carol and her two daughters are coming to spend the night and go to Tulsa with us to celebrate Cassidy's upcoming birthday Dec 11. )
make a cake
make icing (for the first time)
decorate a cake (Cassi designed it...pictures will follow after completion)
sweep and mop the floor
clean up the mess from the cake
grocery shop
tidy up the bathrooms
wrap a gift for Cassidy
entertain
have fun!

I like the last part best.

Hump Day

I feel like I have a hump on my back. Too much over time for AJ who is getting older and older.......but I am tough, I will bounce back befor you know it. (and probably hit you in the face on the return trip haha)

I helped with a catering for the local power company last night. I got to be at the most important table: THE DESSERT TABLE. I had a table full of pumpkin pie, turtle cheesecake and strawberry cake to serve. I did not push the turtle cheesecake under strict orders from my cousin Wendy across the way. She was really hoping that some would be left to take home with her. The last time I saw Wendy she was absconding with a left over pecan pie. She is a Pie Snatcher.

CarlyJo is sick this week. She caught Mom's cold. I suffered through it last week and thought I was going to explode in a snotty mess. Isn't it amazing the amount of mucous your body can produce? It just isn't right!

A local radio station is playing Christmas music 24/7. It is nice for a little while, then it gets annoying.

Got any good ideas for home made Christmas gifts??

UJ and I got ourselves a KitchenAid mixer, black of course. I can't wait to whip up some cookies! It should arrive soon. Now I won't have any thing to open on Christmas morning! :o(

I got Carly the coolest gift ever.......it's a

eeeep! gotta go look at the time!

Monday, December 03, 2007

I knew

if i left my sweet snow flake background up long enough it would finally be in season again...it's kinda like leaving your Christmas lights up all year.

My Christmas shopping is started, barely.

My tree is not up yet.

I have lights for the house......on the kitchen table.

I have good intentions for Christmas cards too.

Cassidy's birthday is December 11th. She will be 8yrs old. NOOOOOOOO!
My baby is 8??

Ok gotta run! This indoor plumbing.....er internet is great!! (but now I have wasted too much time and will be late for work!)
